Tell me what’s better than summer in the Texas Hill Country.

I know, a lot of you are going to say, “I don’t know … maybe Colorado? It’s hotter than Hades here in the summer!” That’s fair, it’s certainly cooler in the mountains this time of year, but there’s just something about a Texas summer and specifically one in our neck of the woods.

Some of my favorite and most vivid memories as a kid growing up in Texas were getting up early, hopping on my bike and meeting up with my friends to conquer the day. That routine was repeated daily with countless hours spent at the local pool, crawling around in creeks and building impenetrable forts in the woods. We had one mission — to not waste a single moment of summer and cram as much as we could into each day before our moms took us “Back to School” shopping — the most dreaded of excursions, and on par with visits to the doctor and the dentist.

Now, I don’t know how many kids still hop on their bikes — maybe they’re riding scooters or hoverboards or something else nowadays — and zip off to who knows where like we did, but I do know that when I go to the Club any given day during the summertime at Cordillera Ranch, I see countless families and kids splashing away in the pool, chasing pickleballs around a court, and generally just having the most carefree time of their lives. Try telling them it’s too hot in Texas during the summer!

It’s awesome and makes me miss those good ol’ days of summer that somehow still feel like they were yesterday. And you know what? I bet those same kids I see today, living it up under the Texas sun, will remember these days, years from now, as some of the best they’ve ever had.

Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been around the game of golf. From watching golf tournaments on TV with my family to going out to the driving range with my dad during my High School years while on the Golf Team, everything I associate with golf has been positive. I decided to attend the University of the Incarnate Word and major in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Business. Fusing both my passion for fashion and love for the game of golf, the golf merchandising path was the perfect path for me.
