Welcome

Fifteen years ago Steve Jobs had just taken over as CEO of Apple (again), which was the first step in transforming a company that would change the way we all communicate.

1997 was a tough year (and a great year) for the San Antonio Spurs because they had just come off a rough season on the court with the injury bug taking out David Robinson, Sean Elliott and others for much of the season. However, the bad record allowed them to win the lottery pick and draft Tim Duncan at #1.

Also in 1997, at the age of 57, Jack Nicklaus made the cut in three of the four majors for the last time and in this same year he effectively handed the torch to Tiger Woods who won his first major by a record 12 strokes and took over the world #1 ranking a couple of months later.

It seems so long ago. So many things in our world have changed since those events in 1997. One other event that occurred around the same time that impacted the 550+ families that currently have homes in Cordillera Ranch: it was in 1997 that the first lots in Cordillera Ranch were platted. Unit 1 consisting of 54 lots from the main gate on Cordillera Trace back to, and including, a portion of Park Ridge, was quickly built and sold. Suddenly this hill country escape was literally on the map.

From the original plans for the 4,200-acre development to the now expanded 8,700 acres, David, Mike and our engineers and consultants had incredible foresight to lay out this residential paradise so that future expansions and additional phases have all been seamlessly integrated as Cordillera Ranch grew over the past 15 years. People are often amazed at the sheer size of Cordillera Ranch, but people are impressed by the attention to details in Cordillera Ranch. Balancing the need to plan something of such scale and size with the even greater importance of getting every little detail right is what has made Cordillera Ranch stand apart amongst other hill country communities for all of these years.

Developing Units 5 through 10 around and past the area that would later become the Clubs village with the Nicklaus Signature Golf Course took extensive thought, analysis and design work. This preparation for the future is what Cordillera Ranch has been all about since the first units were platted in 1997 and we’re still thinking that way today for the thousands of acres of future phases of Cordillera Ranch.

Fifteen years later many of us are dependent on one of Steve Jobs’ iconic products; we’ve witnessed the run of four Spurs NBA Championships; we’re enjoying the acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Cordillera Ranch, and many of us now call Cordillera Ranch home. Here’s to the next 15 years.
Sincerely,

Charlie Hill

Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.
