Venturing with friends to ranches for horseback riding and a luxurious stay is an unforgettable way to enjoy nature, adventure and relaxation all in one place. The Equestrian Center is hosting trips to Rough Creek Lodge and Resort in April, and to Chandler Ranch in September. Whether you're a seasoned rider or an intermediate, the experience of exploring vast, open landscapes on horseback is both unforgettable and transformative.

Rough Creek Lodge and Resort boasts 11,000 acres of Texas’ picturesque landscape, and offers a harmonious blend of rustic charm and modern luxury. Located near Glen Rose, Texas, Rough Creek Lodge and Resort provides a comprehensive and luxurious retreat, combining comfortable accommodations, exceptional dining and a plethora of activities amidst the natural beauty of Texas.

Chandler Ranch is nestled at the confluence of Independence Creek and the Pecos River in Dryden, Texas. This privately-owned ranch has been welcoming guests since the 1950s, providing modern comforts set against the rugged beauty of West Texas. It was established in the late 1800s by Charlie Chandler, and the ranch has remained in the Chandler family for over a century. The property is recognized by the Texas Historical Commission as a Texas Historic Site, reflecting its rich heritage and enduring legacy in the region.

Trail riding on a ranch is more than just an outdoor activity; it’s an opportunity to bond with a horse — a majestic and intelligent creature.

The Benefits of Trail Riding
  • Mental Relaxation: Being surrounded by nature and focusing on the rhythmic motion of the ride can reduce stress and promote mindfulness.
  • Physical Exercise: Horseback riding engages core muscles, improves balance, and strengthens the legs.
  • Connection to Animals: Building trust with your horse fosters a unique bond and deepens your appreciation for these gentle giants.
  • Exploration and Adventure: Each trail offers new sights, sounds and opportunities to experience the beauty of the outdoors.

Beyond horseback riding, or for the non-riders, ranches provide a variety of amenities to enhance the guest experience. These may include spa services, gourmet dining, evening entertainment, outdoor adventures such as fishing, hunting, biking and hiking, swimming, rod and gun sports, tennis and pickleball, ziplining and golf.

Taking guests to a ranch for horseback riding and a relaxing stay is a wonderful way to escape the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. Let’s gather our group, saddle up, and let the different ranches be our next great adventure!

Birding in Cordillera Ranch

Bird watching can be a joyful experience. The sounds of birds frolicking outside your Cordillera Ranch home can be a great addition to your garden and landscape. Bird feeders are the quickest and easiest way to attract our winged friends to your yard. If you have ever visited the Outfitter Center at Cordillera Ranch, you’ll have no doubt about how much I enjoy feeding birds and having them around the entire year.

Manager's Message

Wow, what a time of year!

Spring never disappoints, with warmer weather, longer days and prettier everything, it’s easy to feel a sense of rejuvenation and rebirth during these splendid months. While we’re only a handful of months into the year, and there’s a feeling of a fresh start, it also feels as though some things are coming to conclusion.

Play-A-Hole #7

The 7th hole at Cordillera Ranch is our second Par-3 that you will encounter and can look pretty daunting from the tee. The green slopes away from you and to the right while being guarded by a large bunker on the front/right side and a couple of bunkers on the left side. In case you thought long was safe … it’s not — there’s another bunker there, too!
