Cordillera Cares 2024

Cordillera Cares is our volunteer effort to bring together our staff from all parts of Cordillera Ranch to give back to our Kendall County community. We are blessed to live and work in a beautiful area of the country and know that we can come together to help make it even better.

Our entire team, comprised of employees from Cordillera Ranch, The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, Cordillera Ranch Property Owners Association and DH Investments, Ltd., all come together to help with different non-profit projects throughout the year. This gives all of our staff the chance to contribute and get to know each other since we all work in so many different areas of Cordillera Ranch. There is nothing like laughing and sharing while working together for the common good to bring folks together. Charlie Hill announced the initiative in July 2022, highlighting the three organizations that Cordillera Cares will support. The initiative continues to be successful and is growing every year. Brianna Botine, Victoria DeRocher and Kathi Spink are leading the different projects and organizing our Cordillera team. The three 2024 philanthropies that Cordillera Cares has selected to support is The Center, Cultivar Farms and Love Kendall County Kids.   Kronkosky Place was dedicated to the citizens of Kendall County in 2010 to continue the legacy of the Rainbow Senior Center (RSC) as it transitioned into expanding new services and programs for older adults. RSC transitioned again in 2022 with a new name, The Center, to better encompass the variety of existing programs that span the social, health and lifestyle needs to ensure older adults stay active and engaged. From an active retiree looking to fill their newfound leisure time through supporting a homebound neighbor relying on a daily wellness check and delivery of a hot meal, The Center promotes opportunities to live longer and healthier lives. In April, The Center installed a new putting green, with the help of Cordillera Ranch resident Philip Turturro, for their members and Cordillera Cares donated a golf bag, putters and golf balls.  Cultivar is a community garden program serving the clients of Hill Country Mission for Health, and Hill Country Family Services in Boerne, Texas. The Cordillera Cares team is delivering 3,600 square feet of mulch in July. The team helped install the mulch and provided equipment needed to complete additional projects on the farm. Love Kendall County Kids is a 100 percent volunteer-driven 501(c)3 organization that partners with various local groups like churches, schools, other non-profits, local government, civic groups and businesses. Collectively, we are united by a common vision: ensuring that no child in our community faces the risk of hunger. We look forward to helping with this organization in the fall!  The Cordillera Cares team is excited to support these three organizations in 2024, in addition to the annual Kendall County Sheriff’s Foundation Blue Santa program, and see all the new ways we can give back to our incredible community.  Cordillera Cares’ past endeavors include Stockings for the Kendall County Sheriff’s Foundation Blue Santa program; a Back-to-School Hygiene Drive, a Fall Clothing Drive and an Outdrive Hunger Golf Tournament for Hill Country Family Services; an End-of-Season Swim Party for Boerne Blaze, the local chapter of Special Olympics Texas; and assisting the Families of Cordillera Ranch Adopt-a-Highway program.  To take part in future Cordillera Cares projects, please contact Brianna Botine at bbotine@cordilleraranch.com. Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.

Amanda Naranjo

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been around the game of golf. From watching golf tournaments on TV with my family to going out to the driving range with my dad during my High School years while on the Golf Team, everything I associate with golf has been positive. I decided to attend the University of the Incarnate Word and major in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Business. Fusing both my passion for fashion and love for the game of golf, the golf merchandising path was the perfect path for me.
