From Wine and Beyond…

By Jeffrey Cohen

February highlights brought us the Silverado Wine Dinner, a visit from Fleur McRea, the owner of Pounamu and Little Beauty wineries, at our Wednesday Night Tasting Table, and a Cellar Club exclusive Meet & Greet with Angelina Mondavi, granddaughter of the famed Robert Mondavi.

In March and April we will certainly keep the momentum going!

Right out of the gate on March 1 will be a WOW (Women of Wine) event. The format will be Spanish wines, where a portion of the Faustino portfolio will be enjoyed. Jerome Chladil, who represents Palm Bay — the importers of Faustino — will be the Guest Speaker. Jerome and I have a 15-year friendship and respect for one another, and he is a true expert and professional. With Chef Isaac’s culinary brilliance in showcasing the preparation of tapas for all that attend, this event will definitely live up to its name — WOW!

Our next installment of the Bubbles and Big Reds Tasting will take place on March 8. Just a note: the name has been changed to The Wine Extravaganza. The format will be the same 48 wines, Reds and Bubbles, to taste before purchasing. There will be Grower Champagnes, Big Name Champagnes, Boutique Napa Cabs, Boutique Spanish Tempranillos, Australian Shiraz and many more. It will absolutely be the place to be.

We will follow this up with the Melka Wine Dinner on March 21. Cherie Melka will be in from Napa to tell us all about her very elegant and sought after wines. The team of Phillipe and Cherie are truly at the very top of the Wine Makers in all of Napa Valley, and it is a great honor of mine to have her here at The Club.

Moving into April, Ashley Parker, daughter of the late actor Fess Parker and owner of Fess Parker Winery, will be our Guest Speaker for a Wine Dinner on April 12. We will enjoy exquisitely paired food with the Terroir from Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara and the Santa Maria Valley.

We would then like to take the show on the road — the road to Fredericksburg and the surrounding Hill Country for a “Wine Day” Tour. The date is set for April 26.

I/we would, without a doubt, like to see you all at every event, although some have limited availability. Please sign up for these events early and often by contacting The Club receptionist at 830.336.9000.

Birding in Cordillera Ranch

Bird watching can be a joyful experience. The sounds of birds frolicking outside your Cordillera Ranch home can be a great addition to your garden and landscape. Bird feeders are the quickest and easiest way to attract our winged friends to your yard. If you have ever visited the Outfitter Center at Cordillera Ranch, you’ll have no doubt about how much I enjoy feeding birds and having them around the entire year.

Manager's Message

Wow, what a time of year!

Spring never disappoints, with warmer weather, longer days and prettier everything, it’s easy to feel a sense of rejuvenation and rebirth during these splendid months. While we’re only a handful of months into the year, and there’s a feeling of a fresh start, it also feels as though some things are coming to conclusion.

Play-A-Hole #7

The 7th hole at Cordillera Ranch is our second Par-3 that you will encounter and can look pretty daunting from the tee. The green slopes away from you and to the right while being guarded by a large bunker on the front/right side and a couple of bunkers on the left side. In case you thought long was safe … it’s not — there’s another bunker there, too!
