Evenings to Honor Exceptional Guests

The Speaker Series at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch is a new and engaging program that will bring influential guests who have made significant contributions to their professions for an evening of casual and open conversation.

The Club was honored to host Texas football journalist, Dave Campbell, for the first Speaker Series event on September 10. For those “not-in-the-know,” Dave’s biannual Texas Football magazine covering high school football, college football and recruiting all across the Lone Star State for over six decades has given him legendary status for Texas football fans everywhere! It has been said that “nobody has impacted Texas high school football more without calling a play or taking a snap than Dave Campbell.”

Members enjoyed a personal meet-and-greet book signing with Dave prior to dinner followed by a fireside chat commentary regarding some of his memorable Texas football stories as well as his early beginnings launching his biannual Texas Football magazine. Although Dave no longer is involved with the magazine, the magazine lives on today as a “must read” for anyone in the Texas football world.

The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch Welcome Scott Pelley
Thursday, November 7, 2019

Scott Pelley, former CBS Evening News anchor and the most decorated correspondent in the history of 60 Minutes, revisits the stories and people that have stirred him, changed him, and stayed with him in his engaging new memoir: Truth Worth Telling:  A Reporter’s Search for Meaning in the Stories of Our Time.

In his book, Pelley, a Cordillera Ranch Club member, recalls and reflects upon some of his most dramatic, moving and inspiring encounters in the field and how they exemplify what is good about humanity both in America and abroad. In his nearly five decades as a journalist, he has witnessed the best and the worst, reporting on breaking news around the globe and at home in the U.S. Along the way he has met many extraordinary people who exemplify all that is good about humankind and others who have ceded their humanity to ambition, zealotry or madness. Ultimately, Pelley has learned that it is those who have found the purpose of their own lives amid the vortex of historic events who supply inspiration for us all.

“Pelley’s narratives are a RIVETING blend of investigative reporting, color commentary, and personal reminiscence; they make a convincing case for why journalism still matters.”

— Publishers Weekly

“Scott Pelley’s Truth Worth Telling is A MONUMENT TO JOURNALISTIC EXCELLENCE. In riveting prose Pelley recounts how covering the 9/11 tragedy and Middle Eastern wars has forever changed his world perspective. His personal stories about the enduring power of the First Amendment, 60 Minutes, and U.S. Presidential history are priceless. Highly recommended!

Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.
