Golf

It is hard to believe the Holidays are right around the corner. This is such a great time to play golf in South Texas, and we have a number of big events left on the schedule that I hope you will be able to participate in.

The popular Guest Days will be held November 3rd and 4th and are such a great way to showcase Cordillera Ranch and the spectacular Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at a discounted guest fee rate. We also have a Guest Day planned for all of the Ranch members on November 10th. We have a number of Ranch members who have expressed interest in starting to play golf and upgrading their membership to Full Golf.  This is a great time to bring out a few friends or business clients and enjoy a special day on the course.

The MGA Cup Final is taking place on November 5th and will mark the end of the year points race for the MGA. This format was introduced by the MGA for the first time this year, and the event has been very popular. It should be an exciting day as the MGA crowns their first Cup champion. The MGA Turkey Shoot Scramble is set for Saturday November 19th so get your team together and sign up in the Golf Shop.

Sunday November 6th we will be hosting the Couples Invitational. This event is also a great way to showcase the Club. Member couples invite a guest couple to play golf and Chef Dwight has a gourmet meal planned for participants following play.

For the first time Cordillera Ranch will be hosting the annual Joe Black Cup Matches November 14-15. You can read more about this event on page 18. As the Captain of the Southern Texas team this year, I am so excited for our Club as well as the opportunity to share in the camaraderie and competition that have defined these matches over the last 30 years. If you have the opportunity, come out and watch some great golf on those two days.

As you can see, we still have some great things planned for Fall. The Cordillera Ranch Golf and Trading Shop is stocked and ready to take care of your Holiday shopping needs. There are some great gift ideas we have for you so stop in and speak to one of our professional staff to get you started. Thanks to all of you for your support this year of our golf operation and we wish you a blessed Holiday season.

See you on the course,
Marc DeWall, PGA

Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.

Staff Profile

Amanda Naranjo

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been around the game of golf. From watching golf tournaments on TV with my family to going out to the driving range with my dad during my High School years while on the Golf Team, everything I associate with golf has been positive. I decided to attend the University of the Incarnate Word and major in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Business. Fusing both my passion for fashion and love for the game of golf, the golf merchandising path was the perfect path for me.
