C-Star Results

The 9th Annual C-Star Member-Guest was held October 16-18 and once again was the highlight event on the golf calendar. A full field of 60 teams competed over 3 great days on the Cordillera Ranch Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

The format this year once again had teams playing five 9-hole matches against other teams in their flight. All of the flight winners then competed in the LoneStar Shoot-Out to determine the winners of the event. The format has been well received by participants as it gives everyone a chance to play with numerous different people during the course of the competition.

The weather for the tournament was outstanding all three days, with plenty of sunshine and temps in the low 80’s. Director of Agronomy Mark Semm and the entire Golf Course Maintenance team had the golf course in fantastic shape.

After the practice round on Thursday morning, the fun began with the popular Horserace. This is an Alternate Shot format with four-man teams competing against eachother; mostly for pride but really just not to embarrass themselves in front of everyone else in the tournament! Highlighting the Players Pool party on the first evening was a Skills contest for all participants. An Aces putting tournament was held for the first time along with chipping, bunker play and a Glow-in-the-Dark Long Drive contest!

Jim Puetz and his guest from were crowned the Grand Champions of the 2014 C-Star Member-Guest when they defeated and on the last hole of the Shoot-Out. Congratulations to all of our winners:

Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.

Amanda Naranjo

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been around the game of golf. From watching golf tournaments on TV with my family to going out to the driving range with my dad during my High School years while on the Golf Team, everything I associate with golf has been positive. I decided to attend the University of the Incarnate Word and major in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Business. Fusing both my passion for fashion and love for the game of golf, the golf merchandising path was the perfect path for me.
