Golf Update

Not only is March at Cordillera Ranch an amazing time to come out and play with friends or clients when the golf course is in fantastic shape, but we also have a number of events that highlight the tournament calendar.

The 6th Annual Cordillera Cup will take place Saturday and Sunday March 24th-25th. This Ryder Cup style team competition is a popular tournament amongst our members and thus continues to grow every year. The Northington team captured the first four wins, but last year the Hill team closed strong to forge a tie for the first time. The format is always fun, and being part of a team is what makes this event so special.

The Cordillera Ranch Golf Professional staff will once again be hosting an Adult Short Game Clinic Tuesday-Thursday March 27th-29th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Practice Park. This well attended event is popular among members and space is limited to the first 24 participants. Focus will once again be on chipping and pitching, bunker play and putting.

The Blockbuster Demo Day is set for Saturday April 7th from 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. We have a fantastic group of manufacturers lined up to showcase the latest technology in the golf industry. We will feature special discounts on products purchased or ordered that day only, so advantage of this unique opportunity! We will have complimentary sodas and hot dogs available; come out and enjoy the day with us.

We are trying something different with our Member-Member tournament that will take place Saturday and Sunday April 28th and 29th. We are working on a “Fiesta” theme and need your help. We have implemented a contest titled “You Call It” and are accepting nominations through April 1st for what will become the new permanent name of the Member-Member tournament. The format will be the same as we play a Two-Man Quota and Net BB Quota and we will continue the popular Saturday Casino night that has become a big part of the event. We are looking for a name that conveys FUN and FIESTA so give us your suggestions and may the best name win. We will announce the winning name in the first week of April!

Finally, April means the return of the Valero Texas Open here in San Antonio. Golf San Antonio has done a terrific job with this event in their efforts to make this one of the best events on the PGA Tour. Valero continues to sponsor the event and help make it the leading tournament on the PGA Tour with over $9 million going to charity last year. I hope you will consider supporting this event in some way and head out to the TPC San Antonio course and enjoy some great golf in this the 90th anniversary of the Texas Open April 16th-22nd.

If you have an opening in your group, please let me know if you need a 4th as I would love to join you and your group for a great day of golf. Spring is here, The Master’s begins in early April and there is no better time to enjoy the game.

See you on the course,

Birding in Cordillera Ranch

Bird watching can be a joyful experience. The sounds of birds frolicking outside your Cordillera Ranch home can be a great addition to your garden and landscape. Bird feeders are the quickest and easiest way to attract our winged friends to your yard. If you have ever visited the Outfitter Center at Cordillera Ranch, you’ll have no doubt about how much I enjoy feeding birds and having them around the entire year.

Manager's Message

Wow, what a time of year!

Spring never disappoints, with warmer weather, longer days and prettier everything, it’s easy to feel a sense of rejuvenation and rebirth during these splendid months. While we’re only a handful of months into the year, and there’s a feeling of a fresh start, it also feels as though some things are coming to conclusion.

Play-A-Hole #7

The 7th hole at Cordillera Ranch is our second Par-3 that you will encounter and can look pretty daunting from the tee. The green slopes away from you and to the right while being guarded by a large bunker on the front/right side and a couple of bunkers on the left side. In case you thought long was safe … it’s not — there’s another bunker there, too!
