Welcome

Your house is on fire. Fortunately, you and your family are away from home but your entire life’s worth of photos, personal possessions and family mementos are inside helplessly waiting to become charred remains of what you once had. Tragic and remote as it may sound right now, what do you do in that moment? What do you wish you had done before that moment? While you can’t ever be perfectly prepared for such a random event, you do have an opportunity to improve the odds that the response to an emergency situation is as effective, efficient and timely as possible by supporting the 2015 Cordillera Shindig and its sole beneficiary, the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department.

It’s not just about putting out fires. It’s emergency response teams. It’s making sure that the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department has the equipment and resources to help stabilize you as a first responder to your car accident, heart attack or other emergency health situation. The fact is that if you’re in Cordillera or one of the other 10 surrounding neighborhoods in their 51 square mile coverage area, the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department is probably going to arrive before EMS, Life Flight or other emergency crews.

The BVFD is so important to this area that the Shindig Board – for the first time in several years – has made it the sole beneficiary of the 2015 Shindig. Because of that, the 2015 Shindig, planned for May 2nd at the Cordillera Ranch Clubhouse, will impact more lives than all of the other prior Shindig fundraisers. The overwhelming response and support for the Shindig is evident with half of the tables already sold at the opening night event a few weeks ago. As a Cordillera Ranch community and surrounding area, people seem to be recognizing the importance of supporting the BVFD.

Your contributions will be tangible; they will go directly towards the BVFD’s goal of acquiring a pumper truck, which will dramatically improve the flow and capacity of water the BVFD can bring to the scene of an emergency. This translates to a greater likelihood that they’ll be able to save your house or your loved ones in a fire; if anything is truly priceless that’s it. Furthermore, your contributions are tax deductible since the Shindig is a 501C3. Your support of the Shindig and BVFD is greatly appreciated and is critical towards reaching their goal of $400,000 for the 2015 Shindig, which will go towards purchasing the new pumper truck.

Cordillera Ranch Development is stepping up to the plate as well in support of the Shindig and the BVFD: Cordillera Ranch agreed to donate $500 from every developer lot sale starting this past summer up until the Shindig event on May 2nd. Thus far, Cordillera Ranch has donated nearly $10,000 and hopes to donate much more leading up to the event, in addition to other contributions that Cordillera and the Club provide for the Shindig.

Aside from the great benefit this event provides, it’s one of the best parties you’ll attend. It’s not the typical simple fundraiser; it’s an incredibly well-planned, fun evening with live music, contests, a casino, unique prizes, 5-star dining and, as they say, a good time for a good cause. And really, is there anything more valuable than your health and safety in the event of a serious emergency? This is your chance to help the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department before the emergency occurs. Go to cordilleraranchshindig.org to learn how to donate buy tables or become a sponsor.

Challenges. Opportunities. Moving Forward.

Fall has been a busy season for the Agronomy team. This important season kicks off after all the fun of the Ladies’ Ranch Roundup, when we begin our greens aerification process. At the conclusion of this process in October, we have now seen the extraordinary benefit of the deep vertical slicing (Graden device) coupled with the normal aerification of punching holes and backfilling with sand.

Bees and Golf Courses

A long-standing interest of mine has been the benefits of using honey and bee keeping. I have enjoyed honey since I was a child and there are many benefits of having honey in your diet. Honey contains a variety of nutrients, it’s rich in antioxidants and is better for blood sugar levels than regular sugar. Research has shown it to promote heart health, promote burn and wound healing, and help suppress coughing with children.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been around the game of golf. From watching golf tournaments on TV with my family to going out to the driving range with my dad during my High School years while on the Golf Team, everything I associate with golf has been positive. I decided to attend the University of the Incarnate Word and major in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Business. Fusing both my passion for fashion and love for the game of golf, the golf merchandising path was the perfect path for me.
